TURKİSH RED CRESCENT OR KİZİLAY WAS FOUNDED İN OTTOMAN ERA İN 1868
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday congratulated the Turkish Red Crescent (Kizilay) on its 150th founding anniversary.
In a message to the agency's head Kerem Kinik, he said: “Today, the Turkish Red Crescent is one of the leading institutions of the world in its field."
Reminding the agency was founded on June 11, 1868 under the name of "Ottoman Wounded and Sick Soldiers Aid Society", Erdogan said it has become the hope of all victims and innocent people, and the symbol of solidarity and social cooperation.
Kizilay is the largest humanitarian organization in Turkey, with an international network to help other nations in need.
The non-profit and volunteer-based social service institution is providing unconditional aid and service, and is a corporate body governed by special legal provisions.
Disaster management, blood donations, healthcare, first aid, international aid and immigration and refugee services are among the agency’s activities.
