Following is the message President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued on August 26 Victory Week:
“We, with great pride, celebrate the last week of August, in which the Victory of Manzikert was won, making Anatolia our eternal homeland, the Great Offensive, which was a critical turning point in our War of Independence, ended in triumph.
The glorious march, our nation embarked upon in Mazkiert in 1071, was crowned with the foundation of our Republic following victories won despite all hardships.
The August 30th was a declaration to the entire world of what a nation, left face to face with a choice of ‘either independence or destruction’, could accomplish, of what they could risk for their honor and independence.
Throughout our history, our glorious nation protected and upheld, even during moments of impossibilities, their national and spiritual values at the cost of their lives, and never allowed their presence to be targeted.
The heroism, displayed on the night of July 15, and the unity and solidarity, exhibited in the face of the attacks against our economic and political independence clearly demonstrates that our nation maintain their determination to protect their will and future.
On the occasion of the Victory Week, I remember all our martyrs, particularly Sultan Alp Arslan and Ghazi Mustafa Kemal, with respect and grace and our veterans with gratitude. I wholeheartedly salute all members of the Turkish Armed Forces and all our citizens.”
