President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed mukhtars hailing from the provinces of Ardahan, Bayburt, Bolu, Bursa, Erzurum, Gaziantep, Kayseri, Niğde, Osmaniye, Sinop, Şırnak, Trabzon, Uşak, Yozgat and Zonguldak.
Commencing his address by drawing attention to the importance of mukhtars in the democratic administration of Turkey, President Erdoğan stressed that it is impossible to implement any reform so long as mukhtars are disregarded and that Turkey will shift to presidential system of governance in 2019 in accordance with the constitutional amendment voted for in the April 16, 2017 referendum. “I believe that muhktars will again assume a crucial duty in the new system of governance. Without doubt, the relationship between the local administrations and the bodies of the central administration will continue to be managed via mukhtars,” President Erdoğan said.
TURKEY DOESN’T HAVE ONE SINGLE MINUTE TO WASTE
President Erdoğan went on to say: “Turkey doesn’t have one single minute, one single day to waste. We have lost too much time in the past because of bulkiness, disputes and ineptitude. However, our country has undergone a major recovery, growth and development over the past 15 years. It is now time to crown this with much bigger reforms.”

Describing Turkey as a homeland which brings together in its bosom many of the rare beauties, President Erdoğan stated: “We have recently marked the 94th anniversary of our last state, which we founded on a geography everyone has been yearning to possess and giving their lives for throughout centuries. Such a precious jewel definitely comes with a price. We have been paying that price since the first day our ancestors stepped onto these lands. Being a member of the Turkish nation means uniting in the same heart all our brothers and sisters, who have pinned their hopes and eyes on us, and all the innocent in the world.”
MY PEOPLE DIDN’T RUN AWAY ON THE NIGHT OF JULY 15 COUP ATTEMPT
Touching upon the incidents that took place during the July 15, 2016 coup attempt staged by the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), President Erdoğan recalled that the entire Turkey took to the streets that night upon his call to “hit the streets and squares,” and continued: “Fighter jets and helicopters were dropping bombs from air that night. Tanks were taking aim at my people. Yet, my people weren’t scared of them and didn’t run away.”

Turkey, having thwarted the July 15 treacherous coup attempt, now continues down its path as a country which is much more powerful and determined looking to future with confidence, President Erdoğan underscored, and added: “How about the slaves that follow the dastard called Fetullah, where are they now? Some of them are in prison and some have fled abroad this way or that way. But the one in Pennsylvania doesn’t leave to anywhere. Where did he take shelter in? He took shelter in the U.S.”
President Erdoğan continued: “The assault launched on the night of July 15 to bring our country to its knees led to the reviving and rearing of our country. I am proud to be a member of such a nation.”
Also stressing the importance of the elections to be held in 2019, and pointing to Turkey’s goals for 2023, the centenary of the proclamation of the Republic, President Erdoğan said: “We will determinedly proceed towards 2023 looking at the magnitude of our heart, not that of the problems we are facing; at the magnitude of our power, not that of the enemy we are confronting.”
