Professor Ahmet Davutoğlu was born on February 26th, 1959 in Konya.
In 1983 he graduated from Boğaziçi University with a double major in Political Science and Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences.
He completed his MA in the Department of Public Administration and received his Ph.D. from the Department of Political Science and International Relations, Boğaziçi University.
In 1990 he became an Assistant Professor at the International Islamic University of Malaysia where he established and chaired the Political Science Department until 1993.
He became Associate Professor in 1993 and became Professor in 1999. Between 1995 and 2002, he taught and also had administrative duties at various universities in Istanbul.
Professor Davutoğlu published several books and articles on foreign policy in Turkish and in English. His books and articles have also been translated into several languages including Albanian, Arabic, Greek, Italian, Persian, Japanese, Portuguese and Russian.
Professor Davutoğlu was on the “Top 100 Global Thinkers” list of Foreign Policy magazine in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
In 2012, he was named as one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World” by Time magazine.
He received several awards, including Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service in 2010, AMSS UK Building Bridges Award in 2010, 21st Century Statesman Award by the International League of Humanists in 2012 and Macedonian Friendship Award in 2012.
Professor Davutoğlu was appointed as Chief Foreign Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister in November 2002 and continued to serve as the Chief Advisor until May 2009. He played a very active role in the formulation and impleme ntation of foreign policy during his tenure.
On May 1, 2009 he was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the 60th Government of the Republic of Turkey. He continues to serve as the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the 61th Government of the Republic of Turkey.
He played an active role in peace making and mediation efforts to overcome ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Balkans as Chief Advisor and the Minister.
Proffessor Ahmet Davutoğlu has been elected as AK Party Chairman in the 1st Extraordinary Grand Congress of AK Party (which was) held on 27th August 2014.
Professor Davutoğlu has formed the 62th Government as AK Party Chairman on 29th August 2014
Professor Davutoğlu is married with four children and speaks English, German and Arabic.
