President Erdoğan: The Turkey-Belarus relations progress on solid foundations
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus held a joint press conference at the Presidential Complex following their tête-à-tête and the meeting between the delegations.
Expressing his pleasure over hosting President Lukashenko of Belarus in Ankara, President Erdoğan said during their tête-à-tête and the meeting between the delegations, they had the opportunity to discuss all political, military, economic, trade and cultural issues between Turkey and Belarus, and that they also weighed future steps to be taken.
Recalling that Turkey is the first country to have recognized Belarus’ independence, President Erdoğan noted that the Turkey-Belarus relations have been continuing for 27 years within the framework of common understanding as well as of mutual respect and trust, adding that they will strive to further the cooperation between Turkey and Belarus at every level.

Stating that Turkey and Belarus have significant potential in the area of economy, President Erdoğan said Turkish and Belarusian businesspeople came today together on the occasion of the Turkey-Belarus Business Forum, and that the bilateral trade volume between the two countries tends to further increase.
Drawing attention to the goal of 1-billion-dollar bilateral trade volume in 2016, President Erdoğan stressed that they have yet to achieve this goal, adding: “We laid bare during our talks that we should work more to achieve this goal and our new goal now is to reach 1.5 billion dollars. As a matter of fact, Turkey and Belarus have the means to achieve this goal.”
“BELARUS HAS NOT ABANDONED TURKEY ALONE IN ITS FIGHT AGAINST FETO”
Further stressing that the fight against the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) was also on the table during their talks, President Erdoğan noted that Belarus has not abandoned Turkey alone in its fight against the FETO, has not hesitated to take the necessary steps and has ensured the shutting down of the FETO-affiliated institutions. President Erdoğan thanked President Lukashenko and other Belarusian authorities for the sensitivity and the exemplary stance they have displayed.
Underscoring that the Turkey-Belarus relations, which have an intensive and tangible agenda, progress on solid foundations, President Erdoğan added that the agreements signed between the two countries will further consolidate the contractual basis of the relations between Turkey and Belarus.
PRESIDENT LUKASHENKO OF BELARUS: “WE ARE READY TO ALWAYS CONTINUE OUR COOPERATION WITH TURKEY”
President Lukashenko of Belarus, for his part, underlined that there is no difference of opinion over any issue in the Turkey-Belarus relations, and added that as Belarus, they are ready to always continue their cooperation with Turkey.
Following the joint press conference, President Erdoğan hosted an official dinner at the Presidential Complex in honor of President Lukashenko.
