Presidential Cabinet convenes under the chairmanship of President Erdoğan
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered remarks at a press conference following the Presidential Cabinet Meeting at the Presidential Complex.
“WE HAVE ACTED IN COOPERATION WITH OUR ALLIES”
Stressing that a very significant step was taken in the war that began on February 28 with Israel’s plans and provocations, President Erdoğan said: “It has been announced that a deal aimed at ending the conflicts between the U.S. and Iran has been reached. Thus, our region, which has been on a knife edge for months, has heaved a sigh of relief. As you know, we as Türkiye have always adopted a commonsensical and calm attitude prioritizing diplomacy. We have not fallen for provocations. We have upheld justice. We have not allowed our ties of neighborhood and brotherhood to be damaged. We have acted in cooperation with our allies and with our brothers and sisters in the Gulf. We have been one of those who raise their voices for peace, not one of those who add fuel to the war. We, together with Qatar and Saudi Arabia, have strongly supported the efforts carried out through the mediation of our brotherly country Pakistan.”
“WE ARE EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH THE DEAL WHICH HAS BEEN REACHED THROUGH OUR CONTRIBUTIONS AS WELL”
Underscoring that the plans for pitting brother against brother has been foiled, and that attempts to light fires of fitnah among Turks, Arabs, Kurds and Persians have failed, President Erdoğan stated: “Obviously, we will never forget the terrible destruction in our region, the tragedy of the innocent children massacred at school desks, or the international law being recklessly trampled upon. Nevertheless, we believe that this meaningless chapter of war, which has claimed the lives of thousands of civilians, including innocent children, is now closed. For the good of our region and the entire humanity, we are extremely pleased with the deal which has been reached through our contributions as well. We hope that the deal will pave the way for the establishment of lasting peace and stability in our region. I wholeheartedly congratulate all, the U.S. and Iranian leaderships in particular, who have contributed to the reaching of this important agreement, which has made our region and the entire world heave a sigh of relief after months. Likewise, I congratulate Pakistani brothers and sisters, who have duly fulfilled their mission of mediation, and our Qatari and Saudi brothers and sisters, who have always supported the negotiations.”
“ALL MUST BE VERY CAREFUL AGAINST SABOTAGES”
Stating that those, who have pinned all their hopes on the continuation of gunfire in our region, will be disturbed by the climate of peace, President Erdoğan said that just as they have repeatedly done before, they will do their utmost to undermine this process as well, and went on to say: “We see the statements made yesterday and today by the gang of massacre, who have the blood of Palestinian and Lebanese innocents on their hands, as the sign of this. Therefore, all kinds of rhetoric and action, which will increase the tension during the process until the day of signing, must be avoided, and all must be very careful against sabotages. Türkiye will do what falls to itself during this process as well.”
“WE ARE ONE OF THE LEADING COUNTRIES THAT PROVIDE THE STRONGEST SUPPORT TO NATO PEACE MISSIONS”
Drawing attention to the NATO Leaders’ Summit to be held in Ankara on July 7-8, 2026, President Erdoğan said that Türkiye has the second biggest army within NATO, and continued as follows: “Also, we are one of the leading countries that provide the strongest support to NATO peace missions in various places in the world. While we develop our country’s defense capabilities, we also contribute to the deterrence of the alliance. We think that it will be beneficial that NATO, which makes significant contributions to world peace and stability, maintains this mission of its on a solid foundation in the future as well. And the path to this goes through the preservation of the spirit of alliance on which NATO has been founded.”
“TÜRKİYE WILL CONTINUE TO PLAY A SPEARHEADING ROLE WITHIN THE ALLIANCE”
Further stressing that Türkiye will continue to play a spearheading role within the alliance with its comprehensive military capabilities, extremely dynamic defense industry, highly strategic geography, and with its historical and cultural depth, President Erdoğan noted: “We see that both Türkiye’s position within the alliance and the incidents taking place in our region have increased the interest in and expectations from the Ankara Summit. With the awareness of these expectations, we continue to work in order for the Summit to be a threshold that will direct the future of the NATO’s security architecture.”
